Trudeau’s Latest Power Grab: Doubling CBC’s Funding in the Name of “National Security”

The Liberal government is at it again—finding new ways to waste taxpayer money and tighten its grip on the media. This time, they’re pushing to double CBC’s annual funding under the guise of “national security”—a move that reeks of desperation, control, and political self-preservation.

CBC: A Liberal Propaganda Machine on Taxpayer Dollars

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) is already raking in about $1.38 billion per year from the public purse. That’s $33.66 per Canadian—and now Trudeau wants to nearly double that to $62 per person to match the so-called “G7 average.” That would push CBC’s budget to over $2.5 billion per year—all while Canadians struggle with skyrocketing inflation, housing crises, and higher taxes.

And for what? More biased reporting? More government-funded hit pieces against conservatives? More taxpayer-backed election interference to keep Trudeau and his globalist buddies in power?

The “National Security” Excuse—A Convenient Cover for Censorship

According to Heritage Minister Pascale St-Onge, increasing CBC’s budget is crucial to combat “foreign disinformation” and protect Canadian cultural sovereignty in the digital age. Translation: they need more money to silence dissent and control the narrative.

We’ve already seen this playbook before:

  • Bill C-11 – Government control over online content to boost “approved” media (aka CBC) and bury independent voices.

  • Bill C-18 – A shakedown of tech companies like Google and Facebook to force them to pay Canadian media outlets (aka CBC and their media allies).

  • Twitter Files & Censorship Collusion – Emails revealing how government officials pressured Big Tech to suppress information that didn’t fit their political agenda.

Now, the Liberals want CBC to have a permanent, guaranteed funding stream with statutory appropriations, meaning its budget won’t even be subject to parliamentary debate. In other words, zero accountability while it continues to push government-approved messaging.

CBC’s Track Record: Cover for Liberals, Attack Conservatives

Let’s not pretend CBC is some neutral public broadcaster. Its coverage over the years has been blatantly pro-Liberal and anti-Conservative:

  • SNC-Lavalin Scandal? Downplayed.

  • WE Charity Scandal? Ignored.

  • Chinese Interference in Elections? Barely covered.

  • Pierre Poilievre & Conservatives? Relentlessly smeared.

Meanwhile, Conservative and independent voices are attacked, discredited, and buried by this taxpayer-funded Liberal mouthpiece.

Canadians Are Paying for Their Own Indoctrination

This isn’t about national security. This is about ensuring Trudeau’s message dominates the airwaves while conservative and independent media are drowned out. The Canadian Taxpayers Federation has already slammed this proposal, calling it a waste of money—but it’s more than that. It’s a power grab.

Canadians aren’t buying what CBC is selling. Viewership is down, trust is eroding, and more people are turning to independent media. Instead of letting the free market decide, the Liberals are shoveling even more cash into a failing state broadcaster to keep their propaganda machine running.

Defund the CBC Before It’s Too Late

There’s only one solution: DEFUND the CBC. Cut off its government funding and let it compete in the real world. If it’s as “essential” as the Liberals claim, it should have no problem surviving without a taxpayer-funded lifeline.

But Trudeau and his allies won’t let that happen—because without CBC propping up their agenda, they risk losing control of the message.

And when you control the message, you control the country.
